KNUST Wellness Centre Engages Senior Citizens of Presbyterian Church of Ghana - Christ Congregation, KNUST

On Saturday, July 6th, 2024, the KNUST Wellness Centre held an impactful session with senior citizens aged 70 and above from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana - Christ Congregation, KNUST. The meeting, focused on "Non-Communicable Diseases in the Aged," brought together experts to address various aspects of health and wellness for the elderly.

 

Mr. Darko, a seasoned psychologist of the KNUST Counselling Centre, emphasized the importance of psychological support for the aged. He highlighted the mental health challenges that often accompany aging and provided coping strategies and support systems that can significantly improve the quality of life for senior citizens.

Miss Elizabeth Kwarteng, a nutrition expert from the KNUST Wellness Centre, tackled the dietary needs of the elderly. She provided practical advice on maintaining a balanced diet, the importance of nutrient-rich foods, and how proper nutrition can prevent and manage non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

In addition, Mr. Chris Agbavor, a fitness coach, led an engaging session on physical exercises suitable for the elderly. He demonstrated simple, low-impact exercises that seniors can easily perform at home to maintain mobility, improve strength, and enhance overall well-being.

The event was an educative and exciting one, offering senior citizens essential information and practical tools to manage their health better. The KNUST Wellness Centre remains committed to supporting the well-being of the elderly through continuous education and community engagement.
